Slasher movies were never more popular than in the 1980s, but one of the horror's most underrated hidden gems actually spawned a franchise. Though it began earlier, it wasn't until the release of films like Halloweenthat the blood-soaked sub-genre finally began to pick up steam. A masked killer and high body count were all a movie needed to succeed.
