When Our Flag Means Death hit HBO Max in 2022, it was a breath of fresh air. Taika Waititi’s irreverent sensibilities fused perfectly with Rhys Darby’s endearing awkwardness, creating a pirate comedy unlike anything on TV. Its period setting was lush, its humor razor-sharp, and its characters disarmingly heartfelt - the perfect blend of absurdity and emotion.
