This has been a curious year for movies so far. After 2024 was defined by the industry's calls to "survive 'til '25," a reference to the time it would take Hollywood's output to recover following 2023's dual writers and actors strikes, 2025 hasn't brought the box-office explosion everyone had hoped for. Instead, we're ending the summer season debating whether $800 million is the new $1 billion.
