There have been 50 versions of Frankenstein in movies over the years, but the best version only appeared in one film. Mary Shelley created Frankenstein and his Creature in her 1818 novelFrankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The story was then adapted into silent-era films before becoming a Universal Monster.
