Despite being Star Trek: The Original Series' pilot episode, "The Cage" was not the world's first taste of Gene Roddenberry's creation. Most fans would have first witnessed "The Cage" while watching season 1's "The Menagerie," which reuses the footage as flashbacks during Spock's court-martial.
