It’s no secret that Doctor Who struggled to regain its footing after Matt Smith’s bowtie-loving Eleventh Doctor left the TARDIS. When Peter Capaldi stepped in as the Twelfth Doctor, hopes were high that the show would recapture its edge. Instead, season 8 introduced a more abrasive and uncertain Doctor who never quite hit the right tone.
