Gauntlet’s success is rooted in how different it feels compared to past Battlefield modes. It is smaller in scale, but the pressure of advancing through multiple rounds as the number of squads decrease creates a sense of endurance that many players are responding to. The mode also offers a different experience each match through a wide variety of missions that are randomly seleted each round and push squads into different styles of play, from tight objective control to aggressive elimination-focused strategies. This variety has helped Gauntlet stand out at launch, and the game’s developers tell me that variety is intentional.
