One of the most common criticisms you'll hear about any historical epic is the lack of accuracy to real life. This is true even of movies depicting entirely fictional events, like Gladiator, but the scrutiny becomes even more intense for movies based on actual figures from history. Braveheart, for example, is generally considered one of the genre's least authentic outings, despite being based on famed Scottish icon William Wallace.
