The CSI franchise pushed the boundaries of what a TV police-procedural could be when it arrived on our screens at the turn of the 21st century. The original Crime Scene Investigation series and its spinoffs raised the technical aspects of the genre to another level, and purposely cut against classic cop show tropes with their depiction of forensic scientists.
