The Suicide Squadfranchise is a troubled one, especially since its film debut was marred by critical failure yet was a massive financial success, while its 2021 follow-up was very much the opposite. Given the impressive storytelling present in its spinoff, Peacemaker, indicating its potential, there's clearly a market for "redemption equals death" tropes in popular fiction.
