Romance has changed significantly in the past 20 years - with romance novels having a BookTok-driven resurgence in visibility, and small-screen romance focusing more and more on love (and sex!) as the sole driver of a show. However, romance is nothing new - the genre has always been one of TV’s most reliable storytelling engines and audience-grabbers.
