Back in the classic era, a Doctor Whoseason finale was rarely a big deal. The "finale" was simply whichever episode happened to come last in that particular block. When Russell T Davies revived the series and adopted a more modern format in 2005, however, the finale became true event television. The culmination of long-running storylines, an action-packed final bow, and an opportunity to knock the audience's knitted scarf off one last time.
