He may have been the lead of one of the longest-running TV shows of all time, but Gunsmoke's Marshal Dillon only appeared in one theatrical movie. There's a nonsense rumor that John Wayne turned down Gunsmoke, and it would have been unthinkable for a movie star of his stature to move into television at the time.
