The relationship between a war movie's esteem within popular culture and its accuracy to real life is a tricky one. Authenticity is often talked about as a barometer for quality, and not without good reason. Any movie that depicts a real-world conflict has a duty to portray its subject matter as realistically as possible, or risk doing a disservice to the individuals who were actually involved.
