When James Gunn was placed in charge of DC Studios, he chose Superman as the character to kickstart the new DC Universe. 2025's Superman was a huge success at the box office, got audiences invested in David Corenswet's Kal-El, and created a lot of enthusiasm for the franchise's future. That's why Gunn moved quickly to get Man of Tomorrow going.
