In 2024, Wicked was a phenomenon. The charming first film in the two-part musical adaptation won over critics on its way to becoming the kind of box office hit that got the industry excited. Thanks in large part to the chemistry between stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, both on screen and in the meme-worthy press tour, it got the cultural attention that all of Hollywood is desperately chasing. And the Academy embraced it, to the tune of 10 Oscar nominations, tied for second-most last year.
