It's difficult to watch Luc Besson's Dracula without the knowledge of the French filmmaker's history of sexual assault allegations. He was cleared, in 2023, but watching a film about a man who spends a significant amount of time sucking blood from scores of unsuspecting women does induce a certain shock wave of uncomfortable recognition. The problem for Besson is that, even if one were to successfully watch his adaptation of Bram Stoker's oft-interpreted classic novel without cognizance of the director's troubled past, you'd still be subjected to a terribly boring, tonally askew slog with very little innovation.
