HBO struggled to find a new flagship show when Game of Thrones ended in 2019, even though there was already a worthy successor in active production. Although Game of Thrones' ending was divisive at best, the live-action adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novels is still touted as one of HBO's best shows.
