The Black Phone is a pretty straightforward film – fitting for something adapted from a short story. A serial killer is snatching young boys in a 1970s Denver suburb, but his latest victim can hear the ghosts of his past ones through a disconnected phone, and uses what he learns to try and escape where they failed. For the most part, it's a grounded, human horror movie with a supernatural touch.
