It has never mattered how important they were, Marvel and DC have never shied from axing some of their heroes in the comics. Those involved in high-stake battles, large-scale conflicts — such as members of the Green Lantern Corps or Marvel’s Nova Corps — naturally carry lower life expectancies than relatively insulated, street-level heroes like Daredevil or Luke Cage, whose stories tend to unfold in contained urban settings.
