Admittedly, nothing of high stakes occurs in Kiki's Delivery Service (“Majo no Takkyūbin” in Japanese), especially compared to filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Kiki’s Delivery Service is soft and whimsical, especially compared to those two sprawling fantasies rich in magical spectacle, supernatural creatures, and epic narrative tension.
