Why Siding with the Institute in Fallout 4 Isn't Worth It

Having poured hundreds of hours into Fallout 4 over multiple playthroughs, I feel like I know the Commonwealth like the back of my hand. I know which side quests are my favorite, which areas are fun to explore, and which companions I can't do without. I also know which decisions you should skip to avoid disappointment, like siding with one faction in particular.
