HBO’s fantasy crown is usually handed to Game of Thrones, the cultural juggernaut that dominated TV for a decade, but popularity isn’t the same as perfection. Every jaw-dropping high in GoT had a disappointing low to match. Its storytelling rarely stayed consistently razor sharp throughout for years on screen. However, the same can’t be said for HBO’s true fantasy masterpiece, His Dark Materials.
